Vietnamese looking for sales to cut spending: Nielsen
Vietnamese are rating sales and promotion the most influential reason to shop as consumers in the rest of the world employ different saving strategies to cut spending, market research company Nielsen said.
The majority of consumers in Vietnam favor stores with sales and promotion, before they take into consideration other factors like the stores’ personnel, products and location, Nielsen’s 2011 Global Online Shopping and Saving Strategies Survey found.
The most popular way Vietnamese are saving on household expenses is by buying items on sale, followed by using coupons and shopping at value retailers, Nielsen concluded.
According to the company, as commodity and raw material costs continue to rise, there is a clear preference among consumers around the world for consumer packaged goods manufacturers to offer larger, economy-sized packages, with lower price per serving.
Vietnam echoes a similar sentiment, with 28 percent of respondents preferring large packages.
The survey also found that 56 percent of Asia Pacific consumers indicate they use coupons to save on household expenses. Vietnam is among the markets using coupons most, together with China and South Korea.
In general, 61 percent of global online consumers still rated good value over low price, Nielsen said.
Vietnam’s consumer prices climbed 22.42 percent in September from a year earlier, compared with 23.02 percent in August. That’s the highest inflation rate in Asia, reports said.
