Equities resurrect on bottom fishing
Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index curbed its six-day losing streak, rebounding from a five-week low on October 6 as investors regained appetite for shares on speculation that stocks were at attractively low values.
The gauge of 297 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange restored 0.99 percent, or 4.11 points, to close at 421.32 points.
Of the index, 196 stocks climbed, 41 declined, while 65 remained unchanged.
Trading volume on the city bourse slightly rose over the previous day as 39.42 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND663 billion, up 11 percent.
Becamex Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company (IJC) was the most active share by volume for a second day with 1.63 million shares changing hands.
IDICO - Petroleum Trading Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (PXL) took the second rank with 1.26 million shares.
Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) came in third with 1.02 million shares traded.
CMC Corporation (CMG) rebounded 5 percent to close at VND8,400.
Transforwarding Warehousing Corporation Ho Chi Minh City (TMS) regained 4.95 percent to VND19,100.
Viet Nhat Medical Instrument Joint Stock Company (JVC) advanced for four consecutive trading sessions, building up 4.94 percent to VND17,000.
Urban Development & Construction Corporation (UDC) plummeted 9.52 percent to VND5,700.
AgriBank Securities Joint-Stock Corporation (AGR) trimmed 6.02 percent to VND7,800.
Tai Nguyen Corporation (TNT) went down for four straight trading sessions, giving up 4.95 percent to VND9,600.
Meanwhile, the Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north jumped 2.5 percent, or 1.76 points, to finish at 72.1 points. Around 36.1 million shares changed hands at a value of nearly VND370 billion.
The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares revived 0.1 percent, or 0.03 points, to 30.65 points at 2:25 pm local time with a total of 168,729 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.01 billion.
