Cambodia expects to attract 3 mln foreign tourists by year end
Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen said Tuesday that his country is expected to attract 2.8 million to 3 million foreign tourists by the end of this year.
In a message marking the 32nd World Tourism Day under this year' s theme (Tourism-Linking Cultures), Prime Minister Hun Sen said, "We hope that 2.8 million to 3 million foreign tourists will be visiting Cambodia in 2011."
He said despite the global economic downturn, tourism sector remains robust in Cambodia, thanks to the country's rich resource in "culture and nature."
In 2010, Cambodia attracted 2.5 million foreign tourists and within the first seven months this year, 1.6 million foreign tourists visited the country, an increase of 14 percent on the same period last year.
Hun Sen said Cambodia enjoys a great diversity of tangible and intangible cultures created by ancestors from generation to generation, including Angkor Wat Temple, pagodas, pre- and after- colonial architectures, royal dance, puppet theaters, Khmer foods, Khmer boxing, which are all invaluable pride for the nation.
In addition to cultural sites, Cambodia sits on the Gulf of Thailand and so visitors will find many pristine beaches as well as coral islands in the warm tropical sea.
