Vietnam’s CPI rises by 0.93% in August

The General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) has announced that the consumer price index (CPI) rises by 0.93% in August against July, 2011. This is the lowest rise over the past 11 months since September, 2010.

The price of the food and catering services registered the highest increase of 1.35% as compared to the previous month, of which the price of food, foodstuff and dining-out services rise by 0.46%, 1.55% and 1.59% respectively.

The price of education saw the second highest increase of 1.13% because of the coming new school year. The price of other commodities and services; housing and construction material; beverage and cigarette; garment; and transportation rose by 1.01%; 0.89%; 0.55%; 0.79% and 0.21% respectively.

The price of the group of postal services is the only one in 11 groups of commodities to decline by 0.06% as compared to July.

The gold and USD indexes in August increased by 8.7% and 0.26% respectively.

The CPI increased by 23.02% against the corresponding period of 2010 and by 15.68% against December, 2010. The YoY CPI for the first 8 months of 2011 rose by 17.64%.
