Seafood exports hit 3.1 billion USD in 7 months

Seafood exports in July reached 500 million USD, raising the country’s seven-months turnover to 3.1 billion USD, an increase of 24.8 percent over the same period a year ago.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), exports to large foreign markets have increased in both volume and value; illustrated by the improvement of the value of exports to the US by 48.8 percent, China by 60.5 percent and Canada , 66.2 percent.

Shrimp exports achieved the highest growth, with over 115,000 tonnes being exported, valued upto 1.1 billion USD; an increase of 15 percent year-on-year in volume and 35 percent year-on-year in value.

In particular, comparing with the record from the same period last year, the export of tiger prawn rose by 15 percent in volume and 30 percent in value, and whiteleg prawn by 37 percent and 72 percent, respectively.
