Samsung ‘Galaxy S2' launched in Laos

The latest smart phone from Samsung - the ‘Galaxy S2' - has officially been introduced to Laos and the company is confident that it will be a success in the country.

The K-Plaza in Vientiane, the official, authorised Samsung distributor in Laos, introduced the latest smart phone on Saturday.

Samsung regional director Mr Gwihan Lee said “Currently, the smart phone is the latest trend in the mobile phone market and the Samsung name is becoming synonymous with the new technology.”

“Samsung has the second largest share of the mobile phone market in the second quarter this year and we are going to be number one in the third quarter.”

Mr Lee said that the Galaxy S2 was first launched in South Korea and other countries in April and later in Southeast Asia.

“We launched in Thailand in July and we are number one in that market. Because the people of Laos and Thailand have similar lifestyles, we expect the same success in Lao market.”

“Even though there are many brands in Laos, Samsung is still confident that it will be successful here because only Samsung is serious about doing marketing in Laos,” he added.

“Mobile phone sales in Laos are about 500,000 units per year and we expect to take 40 percent of the market share.”

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is now available at K-Plaza and is priced at about 5,200,000 kip.

“The price here is similar to that in Thailand, so it is better to buy a phone here,” K-Plaza managing director Mr Choi Seung said.

During the launch ceremony, which generated a lot of interest amongst customers, the distributors held a lucky draw to win a Samsung pad and a Galaxy S2. The shop also announced that it plans to hold a draw each weekend as a reward for customers.
