Mfone users decline

MFONE yesterday reported a 21 percent quarter-on-quarter decline in total subscribers, which parent company Thaicom blamed on fierce competition in the Cambodian telecoms sector.

Total subscribers for the second quarter of 2011 fell 20.7 percent to about 553,600 from just over 698,000 in the first quarter, according company statements.

Mfone, 51-percent owned by Thaicom, offers fixed-line, mobile phone and internet services in Cambodia.

Thaicom’s revenues from telephone services, also including Laos Telecomm-unications Company, dropped nearly 27 percent year-on-year to 274 million baht (US$9.1 million) from 374 million baht in the second quarter of last year.
