Danish firm opens warehouse in capital
Danish logistic giant Damco has opened a 6,000-square-metre warehouse facility in Phnom Penh in response to the Kingdom’s growing importance as an emerging market, the company said in a statement.
Damco Company (Cambodia), which is part of international conglomerate AP Moller-Maersk Group, said manufacturers have increasingly eyed Cambodia as a new and growing market.
The company also noted the significant cross-border trucking throughout Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, which it said requires greater warehousing and distribution services.
“This investment is clear evidence of Damco’s strategy to continue to strengthen and develop its presence in Cambodia by offering wide-ranging international and domestic logistics services,” a company statement said.
Located in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district, the warehouse holds 15 container blocks and offers inventory management and control, order processing and grounds management, among other features, according to the statement.
Also, the warehouse “meets top-of-the-line health, safety, security and environmental standards,” the company said.
Damco said it plans to continue to build infrastructure to meet the growing demand, with a second warehouse planned for 2012.
Cambodian Freight Forwarders Association Executive Director Sin Chanty said the continued growth in the number of warehousing and distribution centres in the country is a boon for the Kingdom.
“The increases in production and demand show the development of the private sector and the growth of the Cambodian economy as well,” he said.
