Cambodia's largest port records 13 pct rise in revenues in H1
The revenues of Cambodia's largest port Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (SAP) in first six months this year increased by 13 percent to 14.81 million U.S. dollars from 13.12 million U.S. dollars in the same period a year ago, according to records unveiled Sunday.
The port's records showed that from January to June this year, the total cargo shipments through the port rose by 14 percent to 1. 19 million tons, up from 1.04 million tons in the same period last year.
SAP is among the three state-owned enterprises that the government has ordered to prepare itself to list in the Cambodia Securities Exchange, which is slated to begin trading from the end of this year onwards.
Lou Kim Chhun, director general of PAS, said that the port has seen a sharp rise in the shipments of products such as rice, garment products, petroleum, acacia wood, coal, vehicles, and machinery as well as construction materials.
"Better shipment is thanked to better recovery of the economy," he said.
The port earned 28.42 million U.S. dollars in revenues last year, up 13 percent, he added.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom's second largest port Phnom Penh Autonomous Port reported that during the first half of this year, the container traffic through the port has increased by 30 percent to 35,149 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) from 26,970 TEUs at the same period last year.
The report did not disclose the revenues it earned within the period.
