JICA course develops public financial management in Huaphan
Officials from eight districts of Huaphan province learnt more about public financial management at a training course held from May 4 to 12 supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The training course is a part of the JICA Capacity Building Project for Public Financial Management Strengthening Programme (LAFCAP), which aims to enhance district officials' skills in national treasury and public accounting management.
Chief Representative of JICA Laos Office Mr Masato Togawa visited the training course on Tuesday.
On the same day, Mr Togawa and his team also visited the Finance Office and National Treasury Office in Viengxay district to review work activities there.
National Treasury Director of Huaphan province Mr Khamphong Thalychanh said “This eight-day training course was attended by 19 participants from eight districts and will be very useful in allowing them to gain practical skills in public financial management.”
“We highly appreciate Mr Togawa's participation and visits by delegations from the Accounting Department, National Treasury Department, Department of Organisation and Personnel of the Ministry of Finance, and the LAFCAP project,” Mr Khamphong said.
Mr Togawa told participants “Precise work and reporting on treasury and accounting at the district level are essential for better public financial managem ent.”
According to JICA, similar training courses will take place in other provinces through to late June, boosting the prospects for Laos to maintain an appropriate balance of revenue and expenditure and to allocate more funds to the necessary sectors and projects in the long run.
