Israeli firms seek opportunities
Vietnamese enterprises were willing to co-operate with Israeli enterprises, especially in agro-technology, electronics and telecommunication, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vice Chairman Doan Duy Khuong told a business conference held on Mar. 15 in Ha Noi.
The Vice Chairman spoke highly of Israel's economic growth and technological advancements. He said he hoped that the conference would help businesses learn more about the markets of each country and solidify economic and trade relations.
A delegation of 10 Israeli businesses in hi-tech agriculture, food processing, dairy farming technology, seafood and electronics attended the forum.
"We are ready to provide Vietnamese companies with hi-tech agricultural equipment and advanced farming technologies," said Mark Fishman of Israeli Green 200 Limited.
Co-operation between the two countries has increased with the signing of a series of agreements to create favourable conditions for technology transfer and for the implementation of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement.
Bilateral trade jumped in recent years, from a modest US$66 million in 2004 to $140 million in 2007 and more than $220 million last year, according to the VCCI.
Major exports to Israel include seafood, footwear, clothing, agricultural products, handicrafts and wooden goods, while Viet Nam imported agro-technology, telecommunication equipment, fertiliser and chemicals.
As of February, Israeli investors had pumped $31 million into 11 projects in Viet Nam.
