HCM City's CPI up 1.61 per cent in February
The consumer price index in HCM City this month has increased 1.61 per cent against January due to high prices of most goods items during and after Tet.
In February, the smallest increase rate was 0.01 per cent and the biggest was 3.45 per cent, the HCM City Statistics Office said today.
Prices of beverage and tobacco had the biggest increase rate at 3.45 per cent, followed by prices of cultural, entertainment and tourism services with a growth of 2.58 per cent, and prices of catering services 2.48 per cent.
They were consumer goods items that had the largest consumption during the Tet festival in February, the office said. Meanwhile, prices of other goods and services had an average growth rate of 2 per cent.
The office said the growth rate of essential goods prices in this year's Tet festival was higher than last year.
Prices of meat, vegetable, fruit and seafood approaching Tet and during the Tet rose against normal days, it said, and the prices stuck.
The price for gold and the US dollar had indirect effects on prices of many goods.
A 15.28 per cent increase in the price of electricity from March would put pressure on prices for many kinds of goods.
