For Vietnam, it’s business as usual with Egypt

Vietnam’s exports to Egypt remain unaffected despite the political turmoil happening in the North African country, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said Monday.

Vietnamese exporters will continue to ship goods to the country but many of them will be cautious about the political situation there.

Importers in Egypt said the situation has started to return to normal after a new government was established. However, exports to the country could slow down since people there are awaiting changes to the law and policies.

Nguyen Hong Phu, Director of exports at Dien Quang Lamp Joint Stock Company, said his company  will be cautious and only take orders paid for in advance.

The Ministry has set a target of 10 percent increase in exports to Egypt this year, but this is unlikely to be unachieved due to the political crisis there.

Exports were worth US$175 million last year, up 8 percent from the previous year, while imports from Egypt stood at $12 million.
