PV Gas sets out 2011 agenda
PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas), the country's leading gas enterprise, would focus on six key projects worth a combined VND5.51 trillion (US$269 million), the company announced on Tuesday in a conference to discuss its 2011 agenda.
Three projects are expected to be completed by the year-end: the Hai Su Trang – Te Giac Trang gas pipeline, estimated to supply the southeastern region with an additional 1.9 million cu.m of gas per day, the Phu My – Nhon Trach low pressure gas system with a daily capacity of 2 million cu.m, and the capacity boost of the Thi Vai Port.
The company also planned to kick off construction of three other projects this year: the Nam Con Son 2 gas pipeline with an estimated capacity of 7 billion cu.m each day, the 22 million cu.m per-day Ca Mau gas processing plant, and a fast track project to import liquefied natural gas, a new energy source for the country.
The firm aimed to provide 8 billion cu.m of gas and 800,000 tonnes of LPG this year, ensuring 70 per cent of the domestic LPG demand.
It reported earnings over VND46 trillion ($2.25 billion) last year, a 51 per cent year-on year increase, and posted a net profit of VND5.12 trillion ($250 million). It estimated revenues at VND39.65 trillion ($1.93 billion) this year and a pre-tax profit of VND4.21 trillion ($206 million).
The Viet Nam gas sector development report said the natural gas sector had tremendous potential that could be tapped by 2025 with concerted and co-ordinated efforts by public agencies and their private partners.
According to the report, this could result in a sector that provides fairly priced, high-quality services for gas consumers of all types, offers sustainable and profitable business opportunities for Vietnamese and foreign investors, and helps make Viet Nam one of the world's most competitive and efficient economies.
