Garment export reaches US$170 million at 2010 end
The Lao Garment Industry Association disclosed recently that the export of garment product enjoyed gradual growth after the recovery of the world economic and financial crisis. The value of garment export is expected to reach US$ 170 million by the end of 2010, up 7% over the 2009s.
Mr. Onesy Boudsivongsak, President of the garment industry association, noted that the recovery of the world economic and financial crisis had made the medium, small and large garment producers in Laos recover which helped encourage and create an opportunity for garment producers to generate more income while creating employment in the garment sector.
The garment export from Laos are now mainly to Europe, America, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Mr. Onesy Boudsivongsak confirmed that by the year of 2011, the value of garment exports will increase 10% due to growing orders from European and American markets. 8,000 workers are needed for the garment sector by the year of 2011, added Mr. Onesy.
The export of garment products from Laos in 2007 reached US$ 189 million, down to US$ 159 million in 2008 and gradually down in 2009 due to the world economic and financial crisis.
