Dung Quat Refinery to officially open next week
PetroVietnam's Dung Quat Refinery Plant will be officially opened on Friday, December 24, after an almost two-year-trial to ensure its efficiency and safety.
The more-than-US$3 billion refinery has the capacity to refine 6.5 million tonnes of crude oil - 30 per cent of the country's total domestic demand - each year.
Its products include liquefied petroleum gas , A95 and A92 petrol, kerosene, diesel, fuel oil and Jet A1.
The refinery has taken delivery of 7.6 million tonnes of crude oil from the Bach Ho Oil-field off southern Vung Tau Province since it began working.
An additional 400,000 tonnes of imported crude oil has also been delivered to the refinery.
Dung Quat had refined 6.75 million tonnes of petroleum products to the beginning of this month with 6.66 million tonnes sold.
Its revenue for the year is estimated to total VND53.8 trillion ($2.6 billion) and it will contribute VND10.4 trillion ($495 million) to the State budget.
Revenue is forecast to total VND73 trillion ($3.5 billion) next year.
The plant is working at 105 per cent of its capacity and it refines 18,000 tonnes of petroleum products for domestic use each day.
PetroVietnam has chosen the Japan-based JGC Corporation to provide a feasibility study to extend the refinery and upgrade its yearly capacity to 10 million.
The expansion is scheduled for completion in 2015.
