Dramatic trading on HCM City bourse
Erratic trading on the HCM City bourse saw the VN-Index increase, fall and finally finish up 1.66 per cent to 457.42 on Nov. 2. 66 million shares changed hands with a total value of VND1.38 trillion (US$69 million).
After a slow start, more than 100 shares closed at their ceiling prices with blue-chips such as Gemadept (GMD) and Sai Gon Securities Incorporate (SSI), first to peak.
This fuelled further growth in Refrigeration Engineering (REE), Tan Tao Industrial and Investment (ITA), Licogi (LCG), Sao Vang Rubber (SRC), Song Da Industry, Investment and Urban Development (SJS) and a series of other penny stocks.
Notably, securities shares on the country's two bourses hit their ceiling prices, including SSI and HCM City Securities (HCM) in HCM City, and Kim Long Securities (KLS) and Hai Phong Securities (HPC) in Ha Noi.
Despite the unpredictable situation in HCM City, Ha Noi rose strongly to 111.93, up 4.9 per cent. Trading volume remained high at 68 million shares, with a value nearly equal to HCM City at VND1.32 trillion.
Vien Dong Pharmaceutical Company was officially taken under the control of the State Securities Commission on Nov. 2, and was only permitted to trade in the last 15 minutes of the session.
