Green issues tied to ODAs, Norway says

Norway will channel its ODA loans into climate change initiatives, forest protection and green and renewable energy development, announced a Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister in Hanoi Wednesday.

During the 4th political consultation at the Deputy Ministerial-Level, Nguyen Thanh Son said that Vietnam had demonstrated a good record of effective use of ODA loans from Norway and expressed gratitude for Norway’s continued aid in the future.

On average, the European country provides US$7-8 million in ODA a year for Vietnam, mostly towards oil, aquatic products, education, poverty eradication, and administrative reform projects.

It considers Vietnam a major partner in Southeast Asia and grants it top priorities in ODA, he added.

Vietnam has had a proven record of effective use of ODA or Official Development Assistance from Norway, with just 6 percent of the budget spent on international consulting.

The meeting was also attended by senior Norwegian officials and diplomats.
