Stock indices continue to decline on sluggish volume
The VN-Index declined throughout most of Tuesday session before falling 1.09 per cent to close at 454.32 on the HCM City Stock Exchange.
The bourse's volume rose 20.5 per cent over yesterday's level to about 28.6 million shares worth VND686 billion (US$35.2. million). However, the number of decliners was more than six times higher than advancers.
Ocean Group (OGC) was the most active stock on the southern bourse with 1.46 million shares changing hands. OGC slid nearly 2 per cent to close at VND29,500 ($1.51) per share.
Blue chips fell, while nine out of the 10 largest capitalised shares declined. Only insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) remained unchanged.
A majority of the gainers were mid-cap and penny stocks, including Ben Tre Aquaproduct Import And Export (ABT), Cuu Long Fish (ACL), Godaco Seafood (AGD), Agribank Securities Co (AGR), logistics Gemadept Corp (GMD), HCM City Metal (HMC) and Tay Bac Minerals Investment (KTB).
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell by 1.2 per cent to close at 119.81.
Market volume advanced by 25 per cent to 23.1 million shares, while the value of the day's trades increased by nearly 20 per cent to VND526.1 billion ($27 million).
Losers largely outnumbered gainers 238-51.
Blue-chips tumbled and of the 10 leading shares by capitalisation, only Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) closed unchanged and the rest posted losses in value.
PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) was the most active share nationwide with 2.4 million shares changing hands. PVX closed down 1.35 per cent to an average of VND21,900 ($1.12) per share.
