Italy keen to help develop infrastructure

A seminar was held by the Italian Trade Office in Hanoi on October 4 to discuss Vietnam’s infrastructure development and cooperation with Italian businesses.

At the seminar, Italy’s Trade Counselor Marco Saladini said that Italian businesses want to expand their operations into priority fields such as transportation, energy and environment.

He added that Italian businesses have also provided a great deal of technical support to their Vietnamese partners.

Dr Nguyen Hong Tien, head of the Technical Infrastructure Department under the Ministry of Construction said that the Vietnamese government has paid a lot of attention to upgrading the infrastructure in rural areas in recent years. With support from the Vietnamese government and international organizations, the infrastructure in Vietnam’s urban areas will be vastly improved in the near future, Tien said.

Currently, Italy ranks 33rd amongst nations and territories to invest in Vietnam with more than 30 projects capitalized at some US$156 million, focusing on garments and textiles, construction, sanitary equipment, steel processing and other areas.
