VASEP opposes DOC’s decision
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers issued a press release on September opposing the US Department of Commerce’s (DoC) preliminary decision to impose high anti-dumping tariff on frozen fillets imported from Vietnam.
According to VASEP, the duty rates, which are in excess of 100 percent, far exceed any prior results in this unfair dumping case, which has lasted from over 8 years, and clearly amounts to a punitive tariff on Vietnamese fillet exports.
VASEP also expressed its indignation and concern over the DoC’s decision to change the country used to value raw material inputs from Bangladesh to the Philippines, saying that it is unjustified, as Vietnam is a leading tra fish producer and exporter while the Philippines has no exports of this fish.
The association said the decision is in clear violation of the letter and spirit of the free trade agreement between the US and Vietnam.
VASEP urged the DoC to carefully reconsider its decision, so that it will not negatively affect millions of Vietnamese farmers, not to mention US consumers.
