Customs Department reviews past achievements

The Customs Department, Ministry of Finance, last Friday held a meeting to review its operation over the last one year, 2009-2010 period, and discussed its next year's plan.

Held at Don Chan Palace Hotel, Vientiane Capital, the meeting saw the presence of Minister of Finance Somdy Douangdy, Director General of the Customs Department Santiphab Phomvihane and more than 50 relevant officials.

Over the last eleven months of the current fiscal year, the Customs Department raked in 2.5 trillion kip from import duties, accounting for 97.45 per cent of the target. The figure is 29 per cent higher than that of last year's same period, according to Mr. Santiphab.

Over the last one year, the Customs Department focused strengthening politically ideological education of officials through teaching them resolutions of the Party congresses and legal documents of the government and holding lectures on national historical events.

In addition, the department has paid attention to creating favourable condition for Party members and technical officials to be able to gain opportunity to improve their capability and urged them to firmly grasp the Party's directive.

The Customs Department said it was expected to collect 3 trillion kip for the coming fiscal year 2010-2011 in order to ensure the socio-economic development in the country and increase the politically ideological education of its officials at all levels and promote their honesty and eagerness in enforcing legal documents and laws and tackle illegal and immoral practices among customs officers.
