Country’s CPI can stay at 7%
The Price Consumer Index (CPI) can be kept at 7 percent if comprehensive measures are taken by the government, said Nguyen Tien Thoa, Head of the Price Management Department under the Ministry of Finance.
He suggested that the real demand should be forecast before implementing production and business plans to ensure the supply for consumers. So the country can avoid sharp price hikes caused by the lack of goods.
Businesses should be supported with more loans and preferable policies to expand the market and help them store essential products and boost sales with promotion campaigns and programmes.
Prices for products that are fixed by the State such as electricity, coal, gas, water and bus tickets should be stabilised.
The General Statistics Office announced that the CPI in August has increased by 0.23 percent over July. Despite the low increase in CPI, there remain many factors contributing to price increase including changes in exchange rates and adjustment in petrol and gas prices.
Thoa said that the increase in the CPI in August was reasonable, however, due attention should be paid in some provinces like Vinh Long, Long An, Ha Nam and Thai Binh, where the CPI increase remained high.
Thoa added that the price increase in August were mainly due to the slight rise in the price of some products in the world market including rice, sugar, fertilizer, steel and paper pulp.
