Sinh Quyen copper mine in the northern province of Lao Cai, where over 100 million tons of copper reserves have been found.

Vietnam’s state-run Coal and Mineral Industry Group (Vinacomin) has discovered an estimated 50 million tons of copper in the northern province of Lao Cai, Vietnamnet reported.

The finding follows a previous discovery of 56 million tons of the same material, bringing Lao Cai’s total copper reserves to over 100 million tons - one of the largest reserves in Asia, the news website quoted Vinacomin as saying.

In the meantime, the Sinh Quyen Company factory only has a capacity of 1.2 million tons a year. The company is planning to increase the capacity to three million per year, Vietnamnet reported.
