Thailand eyes corridor investments
Thailand will step up efforts to promote investment in Viet Nam, especially in the central region along the East-West Economic Corridor, Thai Ambassador to Viet Nam Pisanu Chanvitan said in Ha Noi on Friday.
"Thailand considers Viet Nam to be an important partner in ASEAN. Two-way trade turnover between the two countries can be strongly developed through the East-West Economic Corridor," Chanvitan said.
Thai businesses were investing in seafood processing in the central region, he said, suggesting that a real estate company be formed to carry out projects in the region.
He also suggested that Viet Nam's central city of Da Nang establish a bus route to Thailand's Mukdahan Province to facilitate transportation along the corridor.
The ambassador announced the 10th Thailand Trade Exhibition 2010 would take place in four days at the Friendship Palace in Ha Noi starting August 12, showcasing food and beverage items, household goods, garments, electronics, and heathcare products, as well as tourism and aviation services.
About 116 Thai enterprises were slated to participate in the exhibition, which would have nearly 200 stalls, as well as cultural activities to enhance mutual understanding, Chanvitan said.
Bilateral trade between Viet Nam and Thailand in the first six months of this year was US$6 billion, with Viet Nam's coffee and garments among the favourite products of Thai tourists, he said.
