Dung Quat receives first import crude
The first barrels of crude oil from overseas arrived at Viet Thanh Bay and were sent to the Dung Quat Oil Refinery in the central province of Quang Ngai on Wednesday.
The arrival of the first barrels of crude oil from abroad would help raise the economic effectiveness of the refinery, said Nguyen Hoai Giang, Director General of the Binh Son Refining and Petro-chemical Co., Ltd.
About 400,000 barrels of crude oil were shipped from the Azeirilight Oil-field in Azerbaijan on a vessel of Viet Nam's State-owned National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam).
The shipment honours a contract that was signed between PetroVietnam and the State oil company of Azerbaijan, SOCAR.
The oil imports will be mixed with the crude pumped from the offshore Bach Ho Oil-field that is located in the territorial waters of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province.
Crude oil pumped from Bach Ho is of high quality. Before Dung Quat refinery was built, oil from Bach Ho was exported and brought enormous revenue to the country, PetroVietnam chairman Dinh La Thang said.
In addition, PetroVietnam also signed a deal with the British oil giant BP to provide another 400,000 barrels of crude oil from the Miri Oilfield in Malaysia to Dung Quat. This shipment is set to arrive in Viet Nam later this month.
