Prime Minister inaugurates major projects in Central Province
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung inaugurated three large projects in the central province of Quang Nam on Saturday.
Dung attended the official inauguration of the 210MW A Vuong Hydro-power Plant, located on the upper section of A Vuong and Bung Rivers in Quang Nam's Dong Giang district. Construction on the project started in 2003 with the first turbine group was put into operation in December 2008, 70 days earlier than scheduled.
A Vuong Hydro-power JSC has invested VND3.678 trillion (US$193 million) in the hydro-power project, which aims to help regulate floods, provide extra water during droughts, minimise sea water encroachment and create thousands of jobs for local people along the Vu Gia-Thu Bon Rivers.
Dung also attend a ceremony to mark the beginning of work on blocking the flow of the Bung River in Dong Giang and Nam Giang Districts in preparation for the construction of the Song Bung 4A Hydro-power Plant.
With an investment of VND1.2 trillion ($62 million), the 45MW Song Bung 4A Hydro-power Plant is scheduled to become operational in 2012.
On the same day, Dung attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the Thanh My Cement Plant in Nam Giang District's Thanh My Town.
Invested by the Xuan Thanh Investment and Development JSC with total capital of almost VND4 trillion ($209 million), the plant will be completed in two years and have an annual production capacity of 2 million tonnes.
