Power monopoly supplies 16% more electricity in H1
The Viet Nam Electricity Group supplied 45.95 billion kWh of power in the first half of the year, up 16.6 per cent over the same period last year.
The monopoly supplier said its own power plants produced 27.6 billion kWh while it bought the rest from other producers, including 2.44 million kWh from China.
Output at its hydropower plants fell by 1.7 billion kWh year on year as a result of the prolonged hot weather and droughts.
The group sold 40.16 billion kWh to commercial users in the period, 16.4 per cent higher than in the last year's same period.
Supply to industry and construction rose by 20.8 per cent and by 7.1 per cent to offices and domestic consumers, 13 per cent to retail trade and services, 38.8 per cent to agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture, and 17.9 per cent for other activities.
Dao Van Hung, EVN's chairman, said the group bought power from all domestic sources and imported some but was still unable to meet demand.
Without a surplus, power supply will remain fully stretched since EVN has to maintain and repair thermal plants to ensure they operate stably, he added.
The group hopes to increase supply to 54.1 billion kWh in the second half of the year.
