Positive signs of Vietnam-Russia trade cooperation

Russia is now Vietnam’s 20th biggest trade partner, with a two-way turnover of US$808 million in the first half of 2010, accounting for 1.1 percent of Vietnam’s import-export turnover, according the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Vietnam’s export earnings from Russia reached nearly US$300 million in the first two quarters, up by 65.9 percent compared to last year’s same period while its import value dropped by 20.6 percent to US$508 million.

Department officials put the promising figures down to a sharp increase in the export of seafood, rubber, petrol, coffee, cashew nuts, computers, and electronic products, and a decrease in the import of major products like steel, petrol, fertilizer, and aviation fuel.
