Inflation to be modest this month: Ministry
The nation's inflation rate was expected to remain modest in June, with the start of tourist season and some unusual weather likely to have a minor impact on the prices of some food and beverage products, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The price of pork would continue to decline due to the persistance of blue-ear disease, but the prices of beef and chicken were likely to remain high, the ministry said.
It predicted that the prices of some other essential goods, from fuel to rice, would continue unchanged or decline slightly during the coming month.
Nevertheless, the Deputy Head of the ministry's domestic market watch team, Truong Quang Hoai Nam, said that keeping inflation to within the State's official target of 8 per cent on the year might prove difficult to meet by the end of the year.
Prices have risen 4.55 per cent since the beginning of the year, according to General Statistics Office (GSO) figures, and 9.05 per cent compared to the same time last year.
