HCM City’s import-export value hit US$18.5 billion
The cumulative value of Ho Chi Minh City’s imports and exports has reached US$18.5 billion over the past five months, up 5.7 percent from a year ago, according to the City’s Department of Customs.
The export of major products, such as rubber, coffee, and rice earned US$7.9 billion while the import of cotton, electronics, food and other products amounted to over US$10.6 billion.
In the review period, the Custom Department has collected more than VND20.5 billion worth of duties, a year-on-year increase of 24.5 percent. It has also detected 33 cases of smuggling and trade fraud worth more than VND22 billion plus seizing more than 45,000 bottles of pharmaceutical drugs and fining more than 1,000 people for breaking the law.
