Boom time predicted for e-commerce

Electronic commerce has become a tool to help enterprises save on costs and increase their competitive ability, particularly during tough financial times, according to the Viet Nam 2009 E-Commerce Report released by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The report said that online shopping and services had become a trend and will boom in the years ahead when e-payment becomes familiar with customers.

The ministry conducted a survey of 2,000 enterprises and 12 per cent of them had already joined e-commerce. Nearly half of the businesses praised the effectiveness of e-commerce.

In addition, 76 per cent of the remaining, which have not taken part in the market, said they would enter soon.

To prepare for the boom, e-commerce enterprises have expanded the of their operations and provided more services for customers.

"More and more enterprises and customers are paying attention to e-commerce and I believe in the near future, e-commerce will achieve big results, and will be highly profitable," said Nguyen Ngoc Lam, the manager of website www.123mua.com, said.

However, e-commerce enterprises lack information related to the field, although the ministry's report is released annually.

"We hope the ministry of Trade and Industry will co-operate with the ministry of Information and Communications to provide more information about the development of the internet, demand, transactions, trends and income of top e-commerce websites," Lam added.

He also proposed that in the master plan to develop e-commerce from 2011-1015 that the Ministry of Industry and Trade fight against online fraud as well as ensure safety and security.E-commerce's huge potential untapped, says ministry

According to the master plan, national technical standards should be established and applied to all parties who use e-commerce and other needed digital services, including digital signatures.
