Agro-forestry, seafood exports up
Exports of agro-forestry and seafood products in the first four months of the year went up 12.8 per cent against the same period last year, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Turnover of exports of agro-forestry and seafood products was US$5.6 billion, and in April alone was $1.6 billion, with agricultural products accounting for $890 million, seafood products for $350 million and forestry products for $300 million.
Exports of wooden products in April had the highest increase compared to previous months of the year, taking the total export revenue in the first fourth months of the year to more than $1 billion, up 35.3 per cent against the same period last year.
With this growth, the target of fetching $3 billion from wooden product exports this year is likely to be met, according to the ministry.
Seafood product exports in the first four months of the year have increased by 17.4 per cent to $1.2 billion, with exports of tra and basa catfish and shrimp rising by 15.6 per cent and 11.7 per cent, respectively.
The EU market continues to lead in importing Vietnamese seafood products, followed by Japan and the US.
Rice exports have reached 2.14 million tonnes worth $1.2 billion in the first four months of the year, a drop of 13.8 per cent in volume. It was equal in value compared to the same period last year.
Export revenues of rubber, pepper and tea all increased in the first four months of the year, with export revenue of rubber increasing more than two times compared to the same period last year to $445 million. However, exports of coffee have fallen by 21.9 per cent to $651 million.
Meanwhile, imports of agricultural materials and products have reached nearly $5 billion in the first four months of the year, an increase of 77 per cent year-on-year.
