Vietnam sees export surplus to Brazil
Vietnam has seen an export surplus to the Brazilian market over the past three months, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, & Trade (MDIC).
The surplus value reached US$ 3.77 million in November, US$8.056 million in December, 2009 and US$8.557 million in January 2010.
The Vietnamese Trade Office in Brazil says if the growth is maintained until the end of the second quarter, Vietnam will likely meet the target of export surplus to Brazil.
Footwear is the leading export staple to this South American nation, making up 30 percent of the total value, followed by mechanical and electronic items, food, seafood and wood products.
The Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (ABICALCADOS) reports that Vietnamese footwear products exported to Brazil have been on the rise in recent years while Brazilian footwear products hold the lion's share in Latin America and are exported to 141 countries worldwide.
Although two-way trade between Vietnam and Brazil accounts for a small amount of Brazil’s import-export value, it indicates the advantages of Vietnamese products in Latin America and Brazil in particular.
