US$1.4 billion EPC contract signed for power plant

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on March 30 signed an engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) contract with China’s Dong Fang Electric Corporation for the construction of the Duyen Hai thermo power plant, with a total investment capital of US$1.4 billion.

Under the contract, the construction of the plant will begin in 2010 and it is scheduled to generate power in 2014 to meet the increasing demand for socio-economic development in the country’s southern region.

At the signing ceremony, EVN General Director Pham Le Thanh said that the plant will belong to the Duyen Hai Electricity Centre, part of the National Electricity Development Plan in the 2006-2015 period and onwards to 2025.

The Duyen Hai thermo power plant, covering an area of 50 ha, will have a design capacity of 1,245MW and will produce 7.5-8 billion KWh per year. The plant will use modern technologies to ensure its effectiveness and meet international standards for environmental protection.

EVN is also carrying out the construction of the Duyen Hai-Tra Vinh, Tra Vinh-Mo Cay and Mo Cay-Ben Tre 220kV power transmission lines in order to connect the plant’s electricity to the national electricity grid.
