Urban zone planned in Gia Lam

A new residential area and high-tech park, requiring an investment capital of US$410 million and 800 hectares of land, has been zoned in Gia Lam District by the Ha Noi People's Committee.

The project aims to ease the high demand for housing and overpopulation in the city centre and will be located 10km northeast of the city centre, encompassing seven communes and wards of Gia Lam and Long Bien Districts.

Infrastructure works for the residential area, estimated to cost $260 million, will finish in 2012.

The remaining area has been zoned for a park and an entertainment complex which will require $150 million of investment capital.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai last week asked the committee to study the feasibility of the project and co-operate with the Land Fund Development Centre to obtain land clearance permits.
