Tunnel to be finished on time: PM
The East-West Project Management Board and investors should work with one another in order to install the three remaining reinforced concrete segments of the Thu Thiem Tunnel on time.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said this on a visit to inspect construction progress of the tunnel on the Sai Gon River yesterday.
Dung requested local authorities in co-operation with the Ministry of Transport and other relevant ministries to resolve any difficulties that emerged along the way.
According to the board and the Water Environment Project, experts are carrying out final checks on the installation of the first underwater segment and work on the next segment will begin on April 6.
The last two segments are scheduled for installation in May and June. The four segments will then be connected to link District 1 and District 2.
When it is completed, the tunnel will be 1.5km long, 370m of which will be underwater. Each of the underwater segments is 33m wide, 9m high and 90m long.
The cost of the tunnel, the biggest underwater construction in Viet Nam and Southeast Asia, has reached nearly VND10 trillion (About US$530 million), 65 per cent of which has come from Japanese ODA.
