Nation’s largest paper mill opens
Thai-Japanese joint venture Vina Kraft Paper began operating its mill in Binh Duong Province last Friday.
The paper mill, which the owners claim is the largest and the most advanced in Viet Nam, is located in the My Phuoc 3 Industrial Park.
It was built with a total investment of VND3.350 trillion (US$180 million).
Vina Kraft Paper has an annual production capacity of 220,000 tonnes, primarily serving the Vietnamese market. It produces packaging paper for various applications including food and beverages, consumer products, clothing, shoes, electrical appliances and furniture.
The mill features green technology for sustainable growth and targets total sales of VND1.4 trillion ($75 million) this year, according to Chalokeporn Phalajivin, general director of Vina Kraft Paper Company.
"The investment will help to develop the paper industry in Viet Nam and support SCG's strategic move towards leadership in the paper and packaging business in ASEAN," he said.
"We see Viet Nam's good potential for economic growth, the Government is in full support of investment, and paper is in higher demand as the economy grows," said Chaovalit Ekabut, president of SCG Paper.
"We use the best technology and have set up an international standard environmental management system in which the Vietnamese people can have full confidence. We expect our business practice and our new plant will help to elevate industrial standards in Viet Nam and promote strong and sustainable economic growth in ASEAN," he added.
The Thai partner has a 70 percent stake in Vina Kraft Paper and Japan's Rengo holds the remaining 30 percent.
