E-Customs to boost export efficiency

As many as 60 per cent of the country's total export turnover this year would be through e-customs, which has been launched in 10 cities and provinces, the General Department of Customs said.

It planned to widen the range of e-commerce applications and products, such as processing, while it created legal documents for express mail e-customs procedures.

The department said it would divide its e-customs procedures into three blocks. The first would be for receiving, processing and responding to information automatically. Machines and equipment to carry out these procedures would be located at data centres.

The second block would be for checking information in detail in customs branches.

The third block would be physically checking goods.

These blocks would make customs clearance more convenient and faster, the department said. In addition, they would improve flexibility and information storage.

The department said e-customs clearance was of benefit to both businesses and customs offices, reducing time spent in custom documentation and clearance.

As for consignments exempt from checking, businesses would still have to fill out a customs declaration.

For goods needing to be checked, firms would have to submit necessary documents.

Meanwhile, the initial introduction of e-customs would upgrade information and technology infrastructure to international standards and help officials prepare for expansion nationwide.
