Praise for business community
The HCM City’s Business Association should strengthen their role in the business community, according to Nguyen Trung Tin, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.
Speaking at yesterday’s review of the association, Tin said: "Last year, the HBA helped businesses identify the potential of the huge local market in the context of the global financial crisis."
In 2009, the HBA acted as a link between businesses and local authorities by providing information on changes to laws related to the business community and helping them join national and municipal socio-economic programmes.
"We have reflected enterprises’ difficulties related to policy changes to relevant authorities. Since then, the Government has made suitable adjustments to assist enterprises," said Huynh Van Minh, Chairman of the HBA.
"Training and investment promotion were done well," Minh added.
Last year, the association established three enterprises to raise funds and set up a charity fund.
In 2009, the HBA admitted two more club members, increasing its total sub-associations up to 32, with 5,200 individual members. It also donated US$270,000 to the charity fund.
This year is expected to be better, but still remains risky. "The Vietnamese business community won’t have more support from the Government to cope with the financial crisis as they did last year," Minh said.
"The HBA will have to better mobilise our role to support enterprises."
In 2010, the association will focus on trade promotion in potential markets like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Africa and Russia.
At the ceremony, the HBA signed a co-operation agreement with the city’s Investment and Trade Promotion Centre to develop promotions.
