Firms honoured for quality
The HCM City Science and Technology Department yesterday honoured companies that won the International Asia Pacific Quality Award or National Quality Award last year.
The Viet Nam Electricity Cable Joint Stock Company (CADIVI) and Petrol Materials Joint Stock Company (COMECO) won the International Asia-Pacific Quality Award from the Asia-Pacific Quality Orgnisation last October in Mexico.
They are among five from HCM City and 23 from all over the country to win the award since 1995.
"Awareness about international quality is still very limited among the local business community," said Phan Minh Tan, Director of the department.
"It has restricted the number of companies winning the award."
The ceremony to honour the winners was aimed at encouraging more companies to pay attention to quality management so that they could increase their competitiveness and do business despite global integration, he said.
"Poor advertisement has limited the number of the companies in the programme," he said, promising his department would promote dissemination of information to enterprises and urge concerned authorities to help them advertise.
"We have to persuade the business community that joining the programme is good for them. The benefits will be derived from the process to manage their quality."
Tan also called on award winners to share their experience with others so that more Vietnamese firms could join them.
As for the National Quality Award, in the last 14 years, over 1,200 companies have won it, with 44 per cent being large production companies and 36 per cent, small- and medium-sized ones.
