$600,000 initiative to build corporate transparency
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on Wednesday launched a US$600,000 initiative to build integrity and transparency in business relations in Vietnam.
The three-year project will be mostly funded by the embassies of the U.K. and Sweden in Vietnam.
The project aims to enhance transparency in business operations by taking full advantage of information technology, as transparency was considered an important factor in preventing corruption.
The project management unit includes representatives from VCCI, Transparency International (TI), and Vietnamese ministries and agencies.
Local and foreign businesses have long complained about the lack of integrity among officials and the lack of transparency in administrative procedures.
The Doing Business in Vietnam 2009 report by the World Bank says corruption and administrative red tape within the government has led to a lack of transparency and has been a vast challenge for governmental consistency and productivity.
