Vietnam Business forum opens in Switzerland
The Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other international organisations held a Vietnam Business Forum in Geneva, Switzerland on December 3.
Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang briefed participants on Vietnam’s socio-economic gains since 2007, how the country implements its WTO commitments and the progress Vietnam has made in ensuring a sustainable development of the national economy. In addition, Minister Hoang stated that WTO admission have greatly contributed to Vietnam’s fast economic growth rate in the 2007-2008 period.
According to statistics, one year after joining the WTO, Vietnam’s GDP increased by 8.5 percent in 2007, with the agricultural sector up 3.4 percent and the service sector up 8.5 percent. Despite the impact of the global financial crisis, Vietnam’s economic growth rate is forecast to reach 5-6 percent this year. Vietnamese products are available in global markets including the United States, European Union, Japan and China.
Minister Hoang affirmed that Vietnam will further improve the business environment and create favourable conditions for foreign businesses to invest in the country.
At the forum, senior officials from Switzerland’s relevant ministries highlighted Vietnam’s economic achievements since it joined the WTO, especially during the context of the world economic crisis.
