Former US trade rep to advise on bilateral trade

Former United States trade representative Susan Schwab will advise Vietnamese businesses on approaching the US market and promoting their brands abroad in workshops held next month.

Details of Schwab's four-day visit to Viet Nam were released at a press briefing jointly organised yesterday, November 2, by the Link World Unlimited International Event, the Ha Noi National University and HCM City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre.

Prof Schwab's lectures in Ha Noi and HCM City will also help Vietnamese exporters and importers to engage with the US market without encountering lawsuits and trade barriers.

Anna Nguyen, general director of Link World Unlimited International Event, said at the press conference that the US was currently Viet Nam's No 1 market and that Schwab would touch upon practical measures to strengthen Viet Nam-US bilateral trade.

She would also talk about the bilateral trade policies, the US's trade protection systems and trade laws.

During her visit, Schwab will have working sessions with senior officials of the Vietnamese Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and the HCM City People's Committee.

She will speak at two seminars at the Ha Noi National University and lecture at two workshops in Ha Noi and HCM City held on December 1 and 3, respectively.

Schwab was formerly the US Trade Representative, cabinet member of former US President George W Bush, senior advisor, negotiator and spokeswoman on international trade and related issues.

She was also the monitor for negotiations between Viet Nam and the US for the former's accession to the World Trade Organisation.
