Electrical goods distributors planning big sale
An oversupply of domestic electrical goods means earlier and cheaper sales.
Sale promotion season have been kicked off even sooner than ever this year this year. Promotion programmes have been launched since early November instead of Christmas or New Year.
Thien Hoa Home Appliance Centre in HCM City is now running its biggest sale promotion of the year with an expected total savings of 12 billion dong ($705,880). Price reductions have been offered on 15,000 product items. The programme, which began in early November, is expected to last until January 19, 2010.
Buyers at Thien Hoa centre will be given 80,000 attractive gifts and will be able to take part in a lucky draw to win one of four cars
Cho Lon Home Appliance Centre, Saigon Nguyen Kim Shopping Centre and De Nhat Phan Khang Shopping Centre are also offering big promotion campaigns. Cho Lon has promised sharp price reductions of 15-30 percent for 32 inch LCD and plasma TVs made by Panasonic, LG and Samsung. That means sales prices set below 6 million dong per unit).
The price discounts of 15-25 percent are being offered for refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines, while electrical household appliances enjoy price discounts of 20-30 percent
Analysts say that electronics manufacturers now have big stocks and they are trying to boost sales. It is as a result of manufacturers making inaccurate forecasts about demand in 2009.
Therefore, the manufacturers now have to lower the sale prices to clear stocks.
Meanwhile, retailers complain that they have, to date, fulfilled only 60-70 percent of business plans set for the period due to low customer purchasing power so far this year. This has forced retailers to negotiate with producers on lowering product prices to boost sale.
Sources say retailers have prepared well for the upcoming peak sale promotion campaign in December. LCD TVs will enjoy sharpest price reductions of 30-40 percent, which means prices will be set at 5.5 million dong only.
Tran Dinh Luu, marketing director of De Nhat Phan Khang Shopping Centre said the centre has arranged large numbers of products for the promotion programme with several thousands units of each product.
However, despite sharp falls for domestically made electronics, import products have seen prices skyrocket due to the dollar price increases. Retailers say that imports will see the prices rise by 3-5 percent in one month due to the dollar value increase.
