Dung Quat oil refinery resumes operation
Dung Quat Oil Refinery in central Quang Ngai province resumed operation on October 1 after shutting down for more than a month due to a technical problem.
Nguyen Hoai Giang, General Director of Binh Son Petro-chemical Refinery Company, a subsidiary of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), said that as of 6 pm on the first day of resumption, the plant operated at 65 percent of its capacity. It is expected to achieve 85-100 percent of its capacity on October 20.
The nation’s first refinery temporarily shut down on August 18 as a broken valve was discovered in the residue fluid continuous cracking apparatus (RFCC), which makes gasoline and other products.
A major contractor, the French group Technip, was assigned to find the cause of the problem and fix it. Technip, on September 22, completed installation work, and performed a re-check of the facility’s other system to ensure a successful restart of the refinery.
General Director Giang said that experts and technicians are closely monitoring all system of the plant, and implementing careful technical checks, to ensure its smooth operation.
He added that typhoon Ketsana has not adversely affected the plant’s operation.
