Vietnam’s antivirus software to be marketed globally
Hanoi-based Bach Khoa Internetwork Security Company (BKIS) will promote and introduce its latest antivirus software to the global market.
BKIS Director General Nguyen Tu Quang said the BkavPro 2009 antivirus program that will be launched by the end of this month in Vietnam fully meets international standards.
The company has spent more than a year doing global market research and established a workforce with software expertise and English competence to support foreign customers, he said, without giving details about when the product will be marketed in other countries.
The latest version of the software first developed in 1995 features functions improved from earlier versions like real-time protection, killing rootkit and metamorphic viruses, said BKIS R&D Director Vu Ngoc Son.
The software, available in both Vietnamese and English, is also supplemented with six new functions like firewall, web protection, USB protection and proactive protection, Son added.
It is priced at VND299,000 (US$16.76) and offers no free version, local newswire Vnexpress reported.
BKIS often offers a free version of its antivirus software – BkavHome – to personal users, while all enterprise and BkavPro versions charge fees.
Together with the CMC Antivirus – CMC Internet Security software launched by CMC Information Security Company last year, the Bkav software are the only two local commercial antivirus products available in Vietnam.
In July BKIS made the news when claiming that it had traced the cyber attacks pulling down a host of government and commercial websites in South Korea and US.
However, BKIS then received complaints from the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) – which manages the operation of domestic network security providers, and its Korean counterpart about the company’s conducting the investigation without the consent of involved parties.
According to BKIS, the attacks were directed by two servers in the UK. But, the findings are yet to be confirmed and the identity of perpetrators is still unknown.
