Bridge linking Vietnam to China open to traffic

A bridge spanning the Red River and linking Kim Thanh Commercial - Industrial Park in the Vietnamese province of Lao Cai to Beishan Zone in the Chinese province of Yunnan opened to traffic on September 1.

At the inauguration ceremony, delegates from both countries highlighted the importance of the bridge in the Hai Phong-Hanoi-Lao Cai (Vietnam)-Hekou-Kunming (China) economic corridor.

The four-lane bridge, with a total investment capital of more than US$10 million will promote trade and tourism development between northern Vietnam and China’s southwestern region.

The 280m-long and 21.5 m-wide bridge has five main pillars. It was completed in three years by Vietnamese and Chinese technicians and engineers.
