Vietnam boosts the export of foodstuffs to Middle East
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has encouraged Vietnamese businesses to increase their exports of agricultural products and foodstuffs to the Middle Eastern market during the Month of Ramadan (August 27 - September 17).
Apart from highly popular consumer products such as tea and seafood, businesses should increase their exports of coffee, and fruit and vegetables, said the Ministry.
According to the MoIT’s Export and Import Department, in the first two weeks of August, Vietnam’s seafood export turnover to the Middle East hit US$7.1 million, up 7 percent compared to July’s figure. Vietnam’s tra and basa catfish and frozen shrimps are much sought after by the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Kuwait.
In August, tea exports saw a six-fold increase over the same period last year with Turkey and the United Arab Emirates making the lion’s share of Vietnam’s export volume.
Besides black tea, Vietnamese businesses have exported many types of green tea to the Middle East.
However, many businesses still find it difficult to ensure delivery time due to cumbersome administrative procedures. Therefore, the MoIT has asked them to contact the Information Centre for Industry and Trade to keep up with current information on export activities.
