PTSC takes over central sea port to expand deep-water system
Petroleum Technical Services Corporation now owns the Hon La Port in Quang Binh Province and aims to make it a focal point of the country’s developing deep water system, said parent company PetroVietnam.
PTSC General Director Nguyen Hung Dung said the corporation, PTSC, would focus on the procurement of new equipment and technology to maximize Hon La’s capacity to make it one of the largest sea gateways in the central region.
Speaking after PTSC and the provincial People’s Committee signed a contract transferring ownership of the port Tuesday, Dung said PTSC Hon La Port would play a vital role in PTSC’s plans to develop a deep water system in Vietnam.
News of the handover came Tuesday via a statement released by PetroVietnam.
A PTSC official, who asked not to be named, said PTSC paid VND160 billion (US$9.35 million) for the transfer.
After its first phase of development, Hon La Port has a 100 x 25.5-meter wharf that can receive vessels of up to 10,000 deadweight tons (DWT).
Hon La Port project has a strategic economic location on the country’s north-south sea transport route as well as on the transport route from Thailand and Laos to the East Sea.
PTSC shares on Tuesday declined 0.26 percent to close at VND38,100 on the Hanoi Stock Exchange.
